Based on his wide experiences and insights of all types of foreign views on the Dutch, Jacob wrote the Dutch management best-seller of 1998 called
Dealing with the Dutch. In its first edition, the book had five printings and sold 30,000 copies.
As Dutch society is fast changing, updated versions of the book were published in 2001, 2004 and again in 2010.
They were met with the same success as the earliest edition. The overall print of the book is over 70,000 copies by now.
Some new topics in the 2010 edition: the growing political unrest regarding ethnic minorities and immigrants, with its
effects on the way expats are perceived by the Dutch and sometimes suffer from increased xenophobia; the continuing
underrepresentation of women in the Dutch business world, and how general Dutch culture attributes to the
limited impact of the financial crisis and recession.
